U.S. Speaker to Participate in Network of NGOs Women in Enterprise Conference

March 5, 2014: Writer, speaker, and change agent Dr. Avis Jones-DeWeever will visit Trinidad and Tobago to deliver the keynote address at a conference hosted by the Network of NGOs of Trinidad and Tobago for the Advancement of Women, in observance of International Women’s Day (IWD), 2014.

Dr. Jones-DeWeever’s visit is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State under the U.S. Embassy’s U.S. Speaker Program.  It is the second year the Embassy is partnering with the Network to facilitate a U.S. speaker at its IWD events.  Under this program, local organizations are able to partner with U.S. experts and renowned persons in their respective fields who share their knowledge locally.

Dr. Jones-DeWeever is the Founding President & CEO of Incite Unlimited, LLC, a consulting firm devoted to the principle of moving great ideas to effective action.  She has over twenty years in research, advocacy, and evaluation experience.  Prior to that, she held positions in several highly esteemed for-profit, non-profit, and governmental institutions including the Governor’s Office of Virginia, the Maryland State House of Representatives, the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, and the Institute for Women’s Policy Research.  Most recently she served as the Executive Director of the National Council of Negro Women, leading the organization at a particularly crucial moment in its history following the death of Civil Rights and Women’s Rights icon, Dr. Dorothy I. Height.

An accomplished scholar, writer, and public speaker, Dr. Jones-DeWeever is an authority on several issues including race, gender, and the economy.  She is the author of numerous publications focused on policy issues of particular importance to women and the African American community, and a highly sought-after political commentator.  A selection of her works include: Why Women’s Empowerment Matters:  Engaging the Global Economy by Leaving No Woman Behind; Black Girls in New York:  Quiet Strength and Bold Resilience; and the forthcoming book, Black Women Lead:  Owning Your Power, Living Your Purpose, Exceptional Leadership in the Boardroom and Beyond.
