June 6, 2014: As part of its contribution to World Environment Day, to encourage volunteerism and support maintaining a clean and green environment, the Embassy of the United States of America in Port of Spain is sponsoring a clean-up of the Queen’s Park Savannah (QPS).
Members of the public are urged to come and join us from 2 pm on Thursday, June 12, 2014 at the QPS, opposite the Embassy. T-shirts will be given to the first 300 volunteers. Additionally, gloves, garbage bags and water will be distributed. Chargé d’Affaires Margaret B. Diop and Port of Spain Deputy Mayor Keron Valentine will deliver brief remarks at the start of the clean-up.
The Embassy has partnered with the Port of Spain City Corporation to carry out this exercise as well as other generous sponsors, including First Citizens Bank, the Trinidad Hilton and Conference Center; Office Are Us Ltd; the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) at NAPA Campus and Queen’s Royal College.
Public Affairs Officer Alexander McLaren said “Environmentalism starts at home and since the majestic Queen’s Park Savannah is in many ways our front yard, this was the logical place to start to promote environmental awareness and volunteerism.”
