Public Affairs and Strategic Communications Subject Matter Expert Exchange

Communications professionals from the Trinidad and Tobago government successfully completed a four-day Public Affairs and Strategic Communications workshop with U.S. SOUTHERN COMMAND, through the U.S. Embassy, March 5-8. Twenty-four professionals from the Office of the Prime Minister, Ministry of National Security and its agencies, Tobago House of Assembly, Ministry of Public Administration and Communications, Ministry of Social Development and U.S. Embassy participated in the Subject Matter Expert Exchange (SMEE).

“U.S. relations with Trinidad and Tobago continue to be strengthened through exchanges like these, as we seek to share and learn from each other, to ensure we are equipped to deal with the challenges that come our way,” stated U.S. Embassy Chargé d’Affaires John W. McIntyre.

The SMEE training elements included principles and process for implementing effective communications strategies and public affairs outreach. Participants engaged in lively discussions and shared best practices and concepts on how to develop a strategic communication plan for the release of timely, factual, coordinated and approved information across interagency partners during a crisis or event.
