Girl Be Heard Trinidad and Tobago (GBHTT) celebrated Women’s History Month with their first-ever performance titled “Unplugged,” delivered to a packed audience at the Little Carib Theater on March 14. Supported by a grant from WHA and implemented by the Public Affairs Section, this program is creating the first-ever international chapter of the NYC-based Girl Be Heard, who visited Trinidad last Women’s Day. Fourteen at-risk girls from a local secondary school are learning empowerment through creative expression–addressing issues like gender-based violence, abuse, and other challenges through spoken word, song, and dance. A gala performance will cap off the program in late June. Here is a video of GBHTT’s auditions.
