The 2019 Youth Ambassadors and mentor with Public Affairs Officer AJ Jagelski

Eight T&T nationals – seven youths and one adult, have been selected by the U.S. Embassy to represent Trinidad and Tobago in this year’s Youth Ambassadors Program with the Caribbean. The Youth Ambassadors Program with the Caribbean is a 3-week leadership exchange program in the United States for teenagers ages 15-18 and adult mentors. The program provides full scholarships for participants to take part in cultural and educational programming focused on civic engagement and social entrepreneurship.

The 2019 Youth Ambassadors are:
Shivanand Deonarine – Cowen Hamilton Secondary School
Rahsaan Wilkinson – Bishop’s High School Tobago
Alesha Douglas – St. Joseph’s Convent San Fernando
Chikere Marshall – Holy Faith Convent Penal
Chekieva Phillip – Manzanilla Secondary School
Arielle Findley – Bishop’s High School Tobago
Anastacia Sunnelal – Northeastern College
Shnola Cox (Mentor)

The Program brings together high school students and adult mentors from countries across the Americas to promote mutual understanding, increase leadership skills, and prepare youth to make a difference in their communities.

Exchanges are primarily from Latin America and the Caribbean to the United States, but also include delegations from the United States to select countries.

Participants will engage in workshops, community service activities, team building exercises, meetings with community leaders, and home stays with American families. Upon their return home, the students apply what they have learned to implement projects that serve needs in their communities.
