October 16, 2015: The Embassy of the United States of America and the High Commission of Canada will jointly host the annual College Fair at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Wrightson Road, Port of Spain on Saturday, October 24 and Sunday, October 25, from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. each day. This year’s fair will have some great additions, including informative and entertaining side sessions.
This event is FREE to the public! College Fair 2015 is one of the largest tertiary education fairs in the region with over 80 colleges and universities confirmed to participate. Representatives from educational institutions from the United States, Canada, Trinidad and Tobago, and the wider Caribbean will be available to answer your questions on applications, admissions, visas, scholarships and financing. Additionally, the British High Commission and the German Embassy will have booths providing information on studying in the United Kingdom and Germany.
Attending will be Dr. Rudy Crew, former Chancellor of New York City Public Schools and current President of Medgar Evers College in New York. He will be available to meet with students and give a preview of his Pipelineproject, which aims to better prepare underserved students for higher education.
The U.S. Embassy will host information sessions from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day on topics, such as the college admissions process, the SAT, the student visa application, studying at community colleges and state universities. All the presentations will be held in the Jade and Ruby meeting rooms. Also, representatives from Citizenship and Immigration Canada will be on-hand on both Fair days to answer questions about study permits and student visas, as well as provide information on work study options in Canada. During the lunch break from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. both days, 2 Cents Movement will perform with American spoken word artist Marshall Davis Jones.
