September 13, 2021: Starting October 1, 2021, immigrant visa, K-visa, and non-immigrant visa applicants recommended for a medical exam will be required to obtain full COVID-19 vaccination, according to a new Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) policy. Some waivers may be available in countries where a COVID-19 vaccine is not routinely available or if the vaccine is not age appropriate. Unlike other required vaccinations, applicants must complete the entire vaccine series for the medical examination to be considered complete.
This requirement does not apply to non-immigrant visa classes such as tourist or student visas.
U.S. Embassy Port of Spain encourages all applicants to get vaccinated prior to their medical exams. For more information, please visit www.cdc.gov/immigrantrefugeehealth/panel-physicians/covid-19-technical-instructions.html.
